A Cath Lab Technician (also known as a Cardiac Catheterization Lab Technician) is a specialized healthcare professional who works alongside cardiologists, radiologists, and other medical staff to perform diagnostic and interventional procedures in the cardiac catheterization lab. These procedures are primarily focused on diagnosing and treating heart conditions, including coronary artery disease, arrhythmias, and structural heart problems.
In this role, you will be the backbone of the cath lab environment, ensuring that complex procedures run smoothly from start to finish. Your day involves preparing the sterile environment, assisting physicians with catheter-based interventions, and maintaining a vigilant focus on patient safety. You will operate advanced imaging equipment like X-ray fluoroscopy to visualize blood vessels and heart function, while simultaneously monitoring vital signs and administering medications under physician direction.
Beyond the procedure room, you play a critical role in patient education and post-procedure care. You will guide patients and their families through the recovery process, explaining what to expect and ensuring they understand their follow-up care. You will also collaborate closely with the medical team to review patient conditions and evaluate diagnostic results, contributing to the development of effective treatment plans.
We adhere to strict regulatory guidelines, including HIPAA for patient privacy, OSHA safety standards, and Joint Commission requirements. Our team is dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of infection control, radiation safety, and equipment calibration to ensure accurate diagnostic results and optimal patient outcomes.
The field of cardiac catheterization is constantly evolving. We encourage our technicians to stay up to date with the latest advancements in techniques and equipment. You will have opportunities to participate in ongoing education, certification programs, and training in areas such as radiation safety and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS). Additionally, experienced team members often assist in mentoring new staff and students, fostering a culture of continuous learning and excellence.
