This Staff Accountant position serves as an entry-level foundation within our property accounting team. The primary intent of this role is to provide exposure and industry knowledge necessary to evolve into a Client Accountant position. You will work under guided supervision to perform cash and basic accrual accounting functions, ensuring high-quality and accurate work products while adhering to established accounting principles.
You will be responsible for performing full-cycle accounting for cash basis and basic accrual properties, including industrial, land, association, and low-tenant/light office properties. Your daily workflow involves analyzing accounting transactions, preparing bank reconciliations, managing cash functions, and handling accounts payable and receivable.
A significant portion of your time will be dedicated to preparing comprehensive basic financial reporting packages timely and accurately. You will apply financial policies and procedures found in the Client Accounting Policies & Procedures manual, gaining a deep understanding of the structure and impact of policies and the segregation of duties between Property Management and Client Accounting.
As you grow in the role, you will assist with various accounting support functions, including ad-hoc reconciliation analysis, journal entries, and special projects requiring research. You will also dedicate partial time to reviewing the Client Accounting month-end checklist to gain a comprehensive understanding of industry-standard accounting practices. As the position evolves, you will have the opportunity to shadow experienced Client or Senior Accountants to learn complex accounting functions, such as straight-line rent accounting, fixed asset accounting, and full accrual accounting for higher-complexity properties.
Candidates with less than one year of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience are encouraged to apply. A college degree in Accounting or Finance is preferred, along with prior experience in accounting or database software packages and basic knowledge of commercial real estate.
