At Raytheon, the foundation of everything we do is rooted in our values and a higher calling – to help our nation and allies defend freedoms and deter aggression. We bring the strength of more than 100 years of experience and renowned engineering expertise to meet the needs of today's mission and stay ahead of tomorrow's threat. Our team solves tough, meaningful problems that create a safer, more secure world.
The Mechanical Analysis and Test (MA&T) Department is responsible for ensuring structural and thermal design robustness across the Raytheon portfolio of products. From preliminary concepts to fielded weapon system support, MA&T delivers innovative structural and thermal engineering solutions utilizing methods ranging from classical fundamental & empirically based techniques to state-of-the-art finite element methods leveraging industry-leading commercial tools. These methods are all complemented and validated by tests executed in a manner to ensure cost-effective yet technically balanced solutions.
Raytheon is seeking an experienced Senior Principal Structural Engineer to join the Mechanical Analysis and Test Department. This role is based onsite in Tucson, AZ, and requires a candidate with a background in high-temperature structural materials such as refractory metals, Ceramics, and Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs).
In this position, you will act as a technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) to help define and develop the MA&T department's technical processes and tools. You will be expected to work under general direction to define the scope and level of analysis and testing required to meet objectives. Your work will span the spectrum from classical hand calculations to detailed analyses requiring finite element analysis software, covering difficult problems that require solutions that are imaginative, thorough, and practicable. You will be held accountable for your individual work within agreed-upon cost and schedule constraints, presenting your work for peer reviews and serving as a reviewer for other engineers' work. The customers for this position include internal personnel, programs, and external Government personnel and programs.
As part of our commitment to maintaining a secure hiring process, candidates may be asked to attend select steps of the interview process in-person at one of our office locations, regardless of whether the role is designated as on-site, hybrid, or remote. Please note that an active and transferable U.S. government-issued security clearance is required prior to the start date, and U.S. citizenship is mandatory as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
RTX anticipates the application window closing approximately 40 days from the date the notice was posted, though business necessity may require the window to be shortened or extended. Please consider the role type definition as you apply: Onsite roles require employees to work primarily onsite, as they are essential to the development of our products.
