About the Team

Virgin Galactic is pioneering human spaceflight for private individuals and researchers, making the dream of space travel a reality. Our team is dedicated to delivering spaceflight at an unprecedented frequency through the development of next-generation air and space vehicles. We are building the future of aerospace, pushing the boundaries of what is possible in flight.

About the Role

As a Sr. Avionics Instrumentation Engineer, you will play a critical role in the development, integration, and analysis of avionics instrumentation systems on our new vehicles and spaceships. This position bridges the gap between avionics systems tasks and hands-on design, development, and testing. You will evaluate flight avionics hardware, ensuring robust signal conditioning, data acquisition, actuator control, RF communication, and wire harness integrity.

Your day-to-day will involve testing and checkout of flight software, covering hardware interfaces, vehicle guidance, navigation, control, fault tolerance, and integrated vehicle health monitoring. You will collaborate closely with Avionics and other engineering disciplines to design telemetry systems for flight test data and live HD video streams. From selecting specialized sensors like strain gauges and accelerometers to defining installation specifications, you will ensure equipment compliance and troubleshoot solutions for hardware and software obsolescence.

Hiring Process

To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, all applicants must be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual) or be able to obtain the required authorization from the U.S. Department of State or Commerce. Additionally, applicants must not be included in the Office of Foreign Assets Control list of Specifically Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons.

For individuals seeking employment at our Phoenix Mesa Gateway Airport facility, employment is contingent upon obtaining and maintaining a TSA-authorized security badge, which includes initial and annual mandatory background checks.

Our Culture & Commitment

Virgin Galactic is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Employment is governed on the basis of merit, competence, and qualifications, without influence from race, color, religion, gender, gender identity, national origin, veteran status, disability status, age, sexual orientation, marital status, or any other legally protected status.

We are committed to a Drug-Free Workplace. All applicants and active teammates are subject to testing for marijuana, cocaine, opioids, amphetamines, PCP, and alcohol when criteria are met, including pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion, and accident-related testing.

Compensation & Benefits

The annual U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is $108,871.00–$166,036.00. The actual offer will vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, location, experience, and internal equity. The compensation package may also include bonuses or long-term incentives, along with a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits. For more details, please visit our benefits page.
