Virgin Galactic is pioneering human spaceflight for private individuals and researchers, making the dream of space travel a reality. Our team is dedicated to delivering spaceflight at an unprecedented frequency through the development of next-generation air and space vehicles. We are building the future of aerospace, pushing the boundaries of what is possible in flight.
As a Sr. Avionics Instrumentation Engineer, you will play a critical role in the development, integration, and analysis of avionics instrumentation systems on our new vehicles and spaceships. This position bridges the gap between avionics systems tasks and hands-on design, development, and testing. You will evaluate flight avionics hardware, ensuring robust signal conditioning, data acquisition, actuator control, RF communication, and wire harness integrity.
Your day-to-day will involve testing and checkout of flight software, covering hardware interfaces, vehicle guidance, navigation, control, fault tolerance, and integrated vehicle health monitoring. You will collaborate closely with Avionics and other engineering disciplines to design telemetry systems for flight test data and live HD video streams. From selecting specialized sensors like strain gauges and accelerometers to defining installation specifications, you will ensure equipment compliance and troubleshoot solutions for hardware and software obsolescence.
