The Rapid City Journal, South Dakota's largest newspaper, is part of Lee Enterprises, a leading provider of local news serving 114 markets across 25 states. Our core commitment is to provide valuable, intensely local news and information to the communities we serve. Located in the heart of downtown Rapid City, our award-winning newsroom is made up of great journalists who work hard and enjoy collaborating to tell the stories of the people, places, and events happening in the Black Hills.
We are seeking a curious, dogged multimedia sports reporter to join our collaborative team in a competitive media market. This role is designed for someone who values enterprise and watchdog reporting as well as narrative storytelling. You will cover a diverse sports beat including high school sports from fall through spring across three public and two private schools in the Rapid City metro area, as well as schools in the wider Black Hills region. Your coverage will also extend to American Legion baseball during the summer, a handful of rodeos throughout the year, a minor league hockey team, and two Division II colleges.
As a member of this upbeat newsroom, you will produce content for both print and online platforms. The position requires a multimedia approach, including the production of photos and short videos for most stories. New graduates are welcome to apply, provided they have a passion for the region and the craft of journalism.
