The Educational Assistant (EA) and Mid-day Assistant (MDA) positions are vital components of the Special Education Department at Murfreesboro City Schools. These roles exist to support the effectiveness of the special education instructional program by providing direct assistance to teachers and ensuring the safety and well-being of students with diverse needs.
As an EA or MDA, you will work cooperatively with adults and children, modeling appropriate behavior and grammar while protecting the confidentiality of families. Your day will be physically active and interactive, requiring you to stand for extended periods, move quickly to ensure safety, and assist students with personal needs, including toileting, dressing, and mobility. You will also support the educational environment by preparing instructional materials, assisting with direct instruction, and maintaining a positive atmosphere that fosters student self-esteem.
Employment is contingent upon passing a physical abilities test. Candidates must possess a High School Diploma or GED and demonstrate the ability to read and write sufficiently to assist children. Essential qualities include the ability to follow directions, work cooperatively, and manage student behavior with appropriate emotional coping skills. Experience with groups of children and light clerical skills are helpful but not required.
