About the Role

As an Aide in a Special Education Self-Contained classroom, you play a vital role in supporting students with diverse physical, instructional, and behavioral needs. Working under the general supervision of a Certified Teacher, you are essential to the daily implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and classroom programs focused on self-help, behavior management, and instruction.

This position is designed for individuals who are committed to high student achievement and the district's mission. You will serve as a bridge between the teacher and students, ensuring that every learner receives the personalized support they need to succeed. Whether assisting with physical transfers, managing classroom behavior, or preparing instructional materials, your contributions directly impact the educational environment.

Day in the Life

Your day involves a dynamic mix of instructional support and student care. You will work alongside the teacher to deliver lessons to individuals or small groups, helping to maintain a neat and orderly classroom environment. A significant portion of your time is dedicated to student management, which includes assisting students with physical disabilities, providing personal care such as feeding and hygiene, and intervening in behavioral situations when necessary.

Beyond the classroom, you will supervise students during lunch, bus duty, and playground activities, ensuring their safety and well-being throughout the school day. You will also collaborate with faculty members, attend meetings, and maintain strict confidentiality regarding student records and medical needs. The role requires adaptability to handle varied situations, from working with students who have special medical needs to managing the physical demands of lifting and positioning students.

Our Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion

We model our core organizational beliefs and values by fostering an environment where every student is respected and supported. We are committed to maintaining a culture of professional ethics, ensuring that all interactions with students, parents, and staff are supportive, courteous, and respectful. We comply with the Professional Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators, striving to create a safe and inclusive space for all learners.

Application Process

Candidates must possess a valid Texas Educational Aide Certificate and meet the specific educational requirements outlined in the qualifications section. For positions funded by Title monies or at campus-wide Title campuses, an associate degree or two years of higher learning study is required in compliance with the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). Please ensure your application reflects your experience working with children and your ability to follow detailed instructions.
