As an Aide in a Special Education Self-Contained classroom, you play a vital role in supporting students with diverse physical, instructional, and behavioral needs. Working under the general supervision of a Certified Teacher, you are essential to the daily implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and classroom programs focused on self-help, behavior management, and instruction.
This position is designed for individuals who are committed to high student achievement and the district's mission. You will serve as a bridge between the teacher and students, ensuring that every learner receives the personalized support they need to succeed. Whether assisting with physical transfers, managing classroom behavior, or preparing instructional materials, your contributions directly impact the educational environment.
Your day involves a dynamic mix of instructional support and student care. You will work alongside the teacher to deliver lessons to individuals or small groups, helping to maintain a neat and orderly classroom environment. A significant portion of your time is dedicated to student management, which includes assisting students with physical disabilities, providing personal care such as feeding and hygiene, and intervening in behavioral situations when necessary.
Beyond the classroom, you will supervise students during lunch, bus duty, and playground activities, ensuring their safety and well-being throughout the school day. You will also collaborate with faculty members, attend meetings, and maintain strict confidentiality regarding student records and medical needs. The role requires adaptability to handle varied situations, from working with students who have special medical needs to managing the physical demands of lifting and positioning students.
