This Network Engineer position is dedicated to maintaining, monitoring, and troubleshooting very complex IT networks, specifically within a government and military context. You will work closely with military personnel to support the operations, maintenance, installation, testing, and training of communication systems.
Your day-to-day involves a blend of high-level design and hands-on technical execution. You will be responsible for the design, management, and configuration of SolarWinds to ensure network stability. This includes assisting government users in system problem diagnosis, collecting problem information, and recommending fixes. You will participate in the daily configuration and operation of customer IT networked systems, providing quality assurance and operational reporting.
The role requires significant physical and technical engagement with telecommunications infrastructure. You will perform rack and cabinet mounting, cable support system work, and terminate various connection types including coaxial, Cat-6 UTP, multi-mode fiber, and single-mode fiber. You will troubleshoot end connectivity to distant locations and remote network devices, monitoring Local and Wide Area Networks (LAN/WAN) including transport links and Layer 1 and Layer 2 devices.
You will also pioneer technology for new systems, configure and test new technologies, and enhance current systems. Using a ticketing system, you will track network outages from reporting to restoration, performing trend analysis on circuits and server infrastructure. Additionally, you will monitor alert systems to provide real-time network availability for remote applications and hardware, ensuring seamless communication with remote sites.
