Software Test Engineer

About the Role

Insight Global is seeking a Software Test Engineer to support a Navy training and simulation program in Virginia Beach. This role is critical for validating mission-critical systems used by sailors in real-world scenarios. You will conduct hands-on software testing in both lab and shipboard environments to ensure systems perform as expected, working alongside developers and engineers to troubleshoot bugs and improve overall performance and reliability.

The position involves integrating applications, operating systems (Linux/Unix), and hardware components into a unified training system. You will participate in requirements reviews and design discussions to understand expected functionality before testing begins, supporting system installs, validation, and verification efforts during deployments. This role requires cross-functional collaboration with software, systems, and integration teams to ensure the system is mission-ready and stable for end-user training operations. The position includes up to approximately 10% travel.

Requirements

verifiedBachelor's degree and 5 years of relevant experience OR Master's degree and 3 years OR High school diploma and 9 years

verifiedWorking knowledge of Unix/Linux platforms
verifiedExperience with C++ and Java
verifiedExperience implementing and testing GUIs
verifiedAbility to obtain DoD IAT Level II certification within 3 months
verifiedMust hold current or active DoD Secret clearance

Nice to Have

Experience with military or training systems. Working knowledge of ActiveMQ. IAT Level II certification or higher (e.g., Security+ CE, CCNA Security, CySA+). Experience with JIRA and Subversion.
