About the Role

The Software Developer serves as a vital link between theoretical concepts and practical application within our research and development engineering groups. You will design and integrate software across a multitude of platforms, focusing on system instrumentation, radar control, and data collection. This role demands a unique blend of skills to create innovative solutions for complex software domain challenges.

Your day-to-day involves decomposing technical specifications into hardware instructions and system configurations. You will work iteratively to ensure radar systems operate within strict parameters, providing expected data for collection. The role requires independent execution of design, development, analysis, and review tasks under established project deadlines, often balancing office-based work with field assignments.

Real-World Impact

• Radar Waveform Development: You will translate customer requirements into achievable waveform specifications. This involves exploring trade spaces, coding unique system parameters, and conducting rigorous testing with oscilloscopes and spectrum analyzers to verify control timing and data collection across the entire system.
• System Modernization (Remoting): You may lead efforts to modernize legacy hardware, such as moving a Digital Quadrature Detector (DQD) from a VME chassis to a remote Ethernet configuration. This requires creating new messaging frameworks and ensuring continuous integration to maintain system capabilities without hardware dependency.
• Device Integration & UI/UX: You will integrate new devices, such as IR cameras, into existing systems. This includes conducting market research, selecting appropriate hardware (e.g., Panel PCs), and developing secure, user-friendly interfaces that allow operators to control proprietary equipment effectively.

Hiring Process

Candidates for this position will be evaluated based on their qualifications for either a Software Engineer or Computer Scientist track. The distinction lies primarily in educational background: Software Engineers require an ABET-accredited engineering degree, while Computer Scientists do not. Both tracks require a strong foundation in programming, systems engineering, and the ability to troubleshoot operational hardware and software.
