This opportunity resides with Global Security (GS) within HII's Mission Technologies division. Our group comprises live, virtual, and constructive (LVC) solutions, fleet sustainment, nuclear and environmental services, and Australia business operations. As a trusted partner to military customers, HII designs, develops, and operates the largest LVC enterprise that prepares warfighters for cross-domain battle. For over 40 years, the U.S. Navy has entrusted HII to maintain and modernize the vast majority of its fleet. With a holistic approach to life-cycle maritime defense systems—from small watercraft to submarines, surface combatants, and aircraft carriers—HII ensures a high state of readiness. We also support the Department of Energy's national security mission through the management and operation of its sites, as well as the safe cleanup of legacy waste across the country.
Leadership at HII is a mindset, not a title. Through our Leadership Capability Framework, every team member contributes to our mission and culture by committing to learning and supporting team success, building relationships through open communication, taking ownership of commitments, focusing on the mission and those we serve, bringing ideas for continuous improvement, and acting with urgency to follow through with purpose.
Our team of more than 7,000 professionals worldwide delivers all-domain expertise and advanced technologies in service of mission partners. Mission Technologies is leading the next evolution of national defense—the data evolution—by accelerating a breadth of national security solutions for government and commercial customers.
Join HII as we help keep the world's most powerful Navy mission-ready! Our Platform Modernization team is seeking a Shipboard Electrician to support work in the San Diego, CA area. In this role, you will support the Integrated Training Systems Installation and Sustainment (ITSIS) Program, working aboard active surface ships and at shore-based communication facilities.
You will be part of a team that understands preparation requires full coordination, not readiness in piece-parts. Your day-to-day will involve using mechanical tools to install, upgrade, and remove industrial equipment as part of system alterations and installations. You will troubleshoot fiber-optic cables, connectors, and related equipment for fleet modernization, diagnose equipment malfunctions, and analyze product performance. This role requires you to maintain strong customer communication and provide onsite training to customer support personnel as needed. You will also apply technical knowledge to complete complex tasks, assist with technical documentation, and perform duties outside your primary specialty to support installation requirements.
This position requires significant travel to shipyards and military bases both within the U.S. and internationally when not assigned to local tasks. Per diem is available based on travel location, and all travel and lodging expenses are company-covered. You may ride ships at sea for extended periods and work in environments involving high heat, humidity, noise, and dirty conditions, including working aloft or over the sides of vessels.
