CAMBA is a vibrant community of staff, volunteers, clients, donors, neighbors, and partners working together to build an inclusive New York City. Our mission is to ensure that all children and adults have access to the resources and supports they need to thrive. We take a comprehensive approach, offering more than 180 integrated programs in Education & Youth Development, Family Support, Job Training & Employment Support Services, Health, Housing, and Legal Services.
We reach nearly 80,000 individuals and families, including almost 13,000 youth. CAMBA serves a diverse cross-section of New Yorkers, from new mothers in Brownsville to job seekers in the Rockaways. More than half of our clients are immigrants and refugees from around the globe, and over 85% of our families are living in poverty, reflecting the challenges faced by nearly 1.7 million New Yorkers today.
The Shift Supervisor at CAMBA's Atlantic House Men's Shelter plays a pivotal role in maintaining the safety, stability, and therapeutic environment of our facility. Located in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn, Atlantic House serves 200 single men at any given time, the majority of whom are dually diagnosed with mental illness and substance abuse.
In this position, you will ensure the smooth running of all facility operations and supervise staff on a day-to-day basis. Your day will involve managing shift functions, coordinating client care services, and ensuring that all client goals and performance outcomes are met. You will be the on-site leader responsible for maintaining adequate staffing levels, enforcing security protocols, and responding to incidents, complaints, and emergencies with professionalism and empathy.
Beyond operational oversight, you will foster professional relationships with clients while strictly maintaining confidentiality. You will engage clients to address issues as they arise, resolve conflicts between staff or clients in a solution-based manner, and ensure that new clients receive orientation within 24 hours of entry. This role requires a balance of administrative diligence—such as documenting self-administered medications and maintaining log books—and direct service, including conducting initial intakes or assessments when needed.
Candidates selected for an interview will be required to complete specific pre-employment requirements, including TB results, an attestation for the State Central Child Abuse Registry, and obtaining certifications in First Aid/CPR, overdose prevention, F-80 Fire Safety Coordinator, and CPI (Crisis Prevention).
CAMBA is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We value a diverse workforce and an inclusive workplace. People of color, people with disabilities, and lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people are encouraged to apply. We consider all applicants without regard to race, color, religion, creed, gender, gender identity, gender expression, national origin, age, disability, socio-economic status, marital or veteran status, pregnancy status, or sexual orientation.
