The Future of Free Speech Project at Vanderbilt University is dedicated to advancing the understanding of free speech in the digital age across Europe, the United States, and beyond. The team works to explore the challenges and opportunities presented by the rapidly evolving landscape of online communication and digital media.
Our mission is to conduct empirical research and advocacy on the state of global freedom of expression. We aim to strengthen democracy, tolerance, and the rule of law while developing non-restrictive measures to mitigate the harms of free expression. The project focuses on critical topics such as content moderation, online harassment, platform governance, and the impact of emerging technologies like AI on free speech.
As a Senior Research Fellow, you will join a dynamic team to conduct cutting-edge research and contribute to the development of policy recommendations. This role is designed for a scholar who can bridge the gap between academic inquiry and practical policy application.
You will engage deeply with stakeholders from academia, civil society, and industry to share project findings and perspectives. Your work will involve analyzing data and literature to develop actionable insights, contributing to project reports, policy briefs, and academic publications. You will also play a key role in supporting project events, including workshops, conferences, and webinars, by assisting with planning and execution.
This position offers a hybrid work model, allowing for remote work with the requirement to report in-office at least once per quarter to collaborate with the project team and other research fellows.
