The Senior Project Engineer serves as the primary technical liaison for customers and the driving force behind the delivery of highly technical engineering projects. This role is designed for an experienced professional who takes full ownership of project lifecycles, guiding initiatives from initial concept through final commissioning with minimal oversight. You will provide advanced design expertise for mechanical, electrical, and control systems while ensuring strict compliance with industry codes, standards, and internal procedures.
This position is a critical hub for innovation and process improvement. Beyond technical execution, you will lead complex incident investigations, facilitate safety analyses like HAZOP, and mentor junior engineers to elevate the team's overall capability. The role demands a unique blend of strategic office planning and hands-on field presence; this is not a hybrid or remote position. You will split your time between managing project scopes and budgets and providing direct technical supervision at project sites, including travel up to 25%.
The work environment is dynamic and varied, reflecting the active nature of the petrochemical and refining industries. You will navigate a setting that ranges from standard office operations to active industrial sites. Field duties may involve exposure to moderate to loud noise levels, outdoor weather conditions, and airborne particles or chemicals common to active sites. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is provided and required to ensure safety in these environments.
Success in this role requires the flexibility to support a 24/7 operational rhythm, including off-hours and weekends when necessary. You will interact with a diverse range of stakeholders, from regulatory bodies in the United States and Canada to internal management and public groups, requiring strong communication and negotiation skills to resolve complex issues and present technical solutions effectively.
