At Raytheon, the foundation of everything we do is rooted in our values and a higher calling—to help our nation and allies defend freedoms and deter aggression. We bring the strength of more than 100 years of experience and renowned engineering expertise to meet the needs of today's mission and stay ahead of tomorrow's threat. Our team solves tough, meaningful problems that create a safer, more secure world.
The Mechanical Analysis and Test (MA&T) Department is responsible for ensuring structural and thermal design robustness across the Raytheon portfolio of products. From preliminary concepts to fielded weapon system support, MA&T delivers innovative structural and thermal engineering solutions utilizing methods ranging from classical fundamental and empirically based techniques to state-of-the-art finite element methods. These are complemented and validated by tests executed in a manner to ensure cost-effective yet technically balanced solutions.
Raytheon is seeking an experienced Senior Principal Structural Engineer to join the Mechanical Analysis and Test Department. In this role, you will serve as a technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) and leader, defining the scope of analysis and testing required to meet program objectives. You will work under general direction to solve difficult problems that require imaginative, thorough, and practicable solutions consistent with organizational goals.
Your day-to-day will span the spectrum from classical hand calculations to detailed analyses using finite element software, as well as testing ranging from coupon-level material characterization to subsystem and system-level design verification. You will act as a technical leader to help define and develop MA&T department processes and tools, while leading teams to meet program milestones. You will present results to internal stakeholders and external government customers, generate archival technical reports, and coordinate technical peer reviews to ensure the accuracy of work products.
This position is based onsite in Tucson, AZ, and requires an active Secret security clearance on day one. The role involves travel to test sites to support testing or design discussions as needed.
As part of our commitment to maintaining a secure hiring process, candidates may be asked to attend select steps of the interview process in-person at one of our office locations, regardless of whether the role is designated as on-site, hybrid, or remote. RTX anticipates the application window closing approximately 40 days from the date the notice was posted, though business necessity may require adjustments to this timeline.
