This role is situated within the Institute of Utility Security and Resilience (IUSR) at the University of North Florida. The team operates out of the Pavement Research Unit of the FDOT State Materials Office in Gainesville, FL, focusing on the development and maintenance of Data Acquisition (DAQ) hardware for the Accelerated Pavement Testing (APT) effort. This includes work on Heavy Vehicle Simulator (HVS) machines, HVS Test Tracks, and Test Roads.

The Senior Instrumentation Hardware Engineer will focus on the design, selection, testing, installation, calibration, and maintenance of DAQ hardware, including sensors, I/O devices, and chassis. This position is critical to ensuring the seamless integration of the comprehensive DAQ effort, requiring close collaboration with the Senior Instrumentation Software Engineer.
The role demands a highly motivated and organized professional who will spend significant time in the field troubleshooting DAQ hardware. Key responsibilities include maintaining existing APT DAQ hardware, coordinating sensor testing and calibration, developing installation protocols for embedded sensors, and creating Lessons Learned documents to detail the successes and failures of chosen sensors and procedures.
