The Senior Accountant serves as a pivotal leader within the City's finance department, coordinating complex accounting, administrative, and reporting functions to maintain the integrity of the city's fiscal records. This position provides daily oversight of the department's activities, encompassing accounting systems, accounts payable and receivable, cash management, and investments.
Beyond technical execution, the Senior Accountant acts as a key liaison, establishing effective working relationships with the Mayor, City Council, department heads, and the general public. The role involves leading finance technicians, evaluating department workflows, and serving as the primary city liaison to the State Auditor's office for annual audits. The position requires a blend of technical expertise in GAAP and public finance practices with the ability to interpret financial data for diverse stakeholders.
Work is primarily conducted in a climate-controlled office or conference room setting with moderate noise levels. The typical schedule follows standard business hours, Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, including a one-hour meal break. Alternative work arrangements may be considered following the probationary period.
The role includes occasional travel to other work sites, meetings, trainings, and conferences within the area, as well as driving requirements of less than one hour per workweek. Employees must maintain a safe driving record and pass relevant pre-employment screenings.
