About the Role
The Security and Safety Specialist serves as a vital support to the instructional process at the Sweetwater Community, ensuring the safety and welfare of students, staff, and community members. This non-interim position is dedicated to maintaining a positive campus climate while strictly adhering to school and district policies.
Reporting directly to Site Administration, the Specialist acts as a visible presence on school grounds and in adjacent areas. The role involves monitoring student behavior throughout the day, supervising various school activities such as lunchrooms and athletic events, and patrolling facilities to promote security. Beyond physical safety, the Specialist plays a key role in supporting campus culture by encouraging students to reflect on their actions and make amends.
In the event of an emergency, such as a lockdown or evacuation, the Specialist assists in implementing the school's response plan. The role also requires documenting incidents, managing traffic and parking flow, and responding to immediate safety concerns like accidents or vandalism. Continuous professional development is integral to the position, with participation in behavioral safety training, de-escalation strategies, and first aid certifications.
