The University of Hawai'i Information Security team operates within the Information Technology Services division under the Office of the Vice President for Information Technology and the Chief Information Officer. The team is dedicated to safeguarding the UH System's digital infrastructure, ensuring the protection of sensitive data, and maintaining compliance with a complex landscape of federal, state, and industry regulations. As a permanent, full-time member of this unit, you will play a critical role in upholding the university's mission of academic excellence and research integrity by securing the technology that supports 20,000+ students, faculty, and staff across the system.
As a Security Administrator/Information Security Specialist, you will serve as a pivotal Technical Analyst within the UH Information Security team. This role is designed to oversee, manage, and maintain the university's data protection and compliance programs. You will act as the frontline defender for critical information systems, managing Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) tools to detect, investigate, and respond to suspicious or malicious activity in real-time.
Your day-to-day involves a dynamic blend of technical analysis and strategic leadership. You will monitor security hardware and networks in close cooperation with ITS staff, leading incident responses and investigations for policy violations or security compromises. Beyond technical defense, you will be a key communicator, developing and delivering security awareness training to faculty, staff, and students, and translating complex security concepts into actionable guidance. You will also collaborate with external vendors and internal units to remediate vulnerabilities, ensuring the UH System stays ahead of emerging threats while adhering to standards such as NIST, HIPAA, FERPA, and the DOD Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification.
