Butler Machinery Co is seeking future Caterpillar Diesel Technicians for the ThinkBIG program. This initiative is designed for high school juniors and seniors, college-bound students, or individuals seeking a career change who possess a passion for construction and mining equipment, a strong work ethic, and basic mechanical skills.
The ThinkBIG program offers a unique blend of classroom and lab education at Lake Area Technical College (LATC) in Watertown, SD, combined with paid internships at one of our 15 Caterpillar dealerships. Over the course of two years, students rotate through nine 8-week terms, with internships scheduled for the 2nd, 4th, 6th, and 8th rotations. This structure provides up-to-date technical training on Caterpillar systems and equipment, laying the foundation for a lucrative, lifelong career in diesel technology.
Upon successful completion of the program, graduates earn an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Diesel Technology. Graduates then transition to full-time employment at a Butler Machinery dealership, with technician positions starting at $32.73/hour. The role offers benefits, continued education, and significant potential for career advancement across North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, and Montana.
At Butler, we believe our team is our greatest asset. We operate with a commitment to dignity, respect, and integrity, understanding that our word is the cornerstone of our business. We are customer-driven, striving to exceed expectations without compromising our values. We embrace accountability, recognizing the impact of our decisions, and pursue excellence through innovation and lifelong learning. Above all, we believe in uncompromised safety, collectively taking responsibility for the well-being of one another in all workplace situations.
Interested candidates must submit their application electronically through the Butler Machinery website. Please note that applicants must be accepted by Lake Area Technical College by its deadline and must have a valid work authorization to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship.
