The School Psychologist at Union School District plays a vital role in supporting the intellectual, social, emotional, and educational well-being of students. This position provides psycho-educational services to individual children, groups, and the broader educational program, ensuring that every student receives the necessary support to thrive.
In this role, you will serve as a key consultant to teachers, counselors, and administrators, collaborating to develop effective educational practices and intervention plans. Your work involves evaluating students with educational or behavioral difficulties, conducting functional behavioral analyses, and assisting in the creation of behavior intervention plans. You will also guide the identification and placement of special education candidates, perform triennial re-evaluations in compliance with IDEA and state laws, and assess students for gifted and talented programs.
Beyond direct student assessment, you will counsel students and parents to facilitate learning and adjustment, interpreting test findings to help families understand their child's potential and needs. You will also coordinate referrals to external agencies, such as Santa Clara County Mental Health, and serve on the district's crisis team to provide grief counseling. Additionally, the position offers opportunities to participate in curriculum development, research, and the training of interns and field workers in partnership with local colleges.
