About the Role

The School Nurse serves as a vital health resource within the Jefferson Parish Public School System (JPPSS), providing essential health services to students throughout the school day. This role is dedicated to upholding the standards set by the State Department of Education and the State Department of Health, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for student well-being.

As a key liaison between parents, the school community, and the broader health sector, the Nurse manages a weekly routine of school visits. The position involves conducting health conferences for students with special needs, developing Individual Health Plans (IHPs), and implementing necessary accommodations. Beyond clinical duties, the role includes training staff on health procedures, managing immunization records, and performing mandated screenings such as vision, hearing, and scoliosis checks. The Nurse also provides critical counseling to pregnant students and offers health assessments for those who are ill or injured during school hours.
