This position is designed for an experienced Registered Nurse to provide high-acuity care within a combined Medical and Surgical/Trauma/Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit. This is not an entry-level role; candidates must demonstrate independent, competent ability to manage complex medical, trauma, neuro, and surgical ICU patients. The unit operates as a Level 1 Trauma center, caring for patients with conditions ranging from ARDS, sepsis, and cardiac surgery to head injuries, strokes, and traumatic brain injuries.
The team supports a diverse patient population including adolescents, adults, pediatrics, and geriatrics across 38 beds. Nurses will float primarily within the Critical Care Division, with assignments dictated by census needs between the 28-bed Medical ICU and the 10-bed Surgical/Trauma/Neurosurgical ICU. The role involves managing advanced life support technologies, including ECMO, Impella, IABP, and CRRTECMO, alongside complex procedures such as chest tube management, EVD care, and titration of vasoactive drips.
The position is scheduled for the Night shift (19:00 - 07:30) on a 3x12-hour rotation. While the primary schedule is fixed, the unit prefers rotating shift availability to accommodate fluctuating census. Block schedules for day/night shifts may be considered. Weekend coverage requirements vary based on unit needs, and candidates must be willing to float to other units as necessary.
Candidates must submit a completed application including references. A background check is required, with license and background hits approved on a case-by-case basis. Candidates must be available to start immediately upon submission of required travel compliance documents and RTO (Return to Office) confirmation. A 36-hour orientation is provided prior to independent patient care.
A COVID-19 vaccine is required, with exemptions considered only for medical or religious reasons. Flu vaccination status is currently unknown. Candidates must have at least one year of experience in the specialty, with previous charge experience and Level 1 Trauma experience preferred. Travelers must be within a 75-mile local radius; local rules do not accept non-local candidates unless otherwise agreed upon during the interview or offer process.
