About the Team

UVA Health Children's provides primary and specialty care across more than 30 specialties throughout the Commonwealth and beyond. Located within the University Medical Center, the facility features 111 beds, a pediatric emergency department, a Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), and a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). The hospital is home to a complex congenital heart program that accepts patients with all types of cardiac defects, including those requiring transplants and ECMO.

About the Role

We are seeking a Respiratory Therapist to support our multidisciplinary team in caring for neonates, infants, adolescents, and pediatric patients. This role requires a clinician who is comfortable working across all units of the Children's Hospital, including the NICU, PICU, high-risk delivery areas, and acute care pediatrics. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong communication and critical thinking skills while managing complex respiratory needs.

You will be expected to operate specialized equipment, including the Bunnell Jet Ventilator and HFOV 3100A. The position involves floating within your scope of practice across the facility, requiring adaptability and broad clinical competence. The unit operates on a self-scheduling model; while the manager will explain the system during the interview, specific schedule preferences cannot be guaranteed, though efforts will be made to accommodate them.

Hiring Process & Application Instructions

Candidates must submit a copy of all required certifications with their application. Nursing license verification via Nursys is required for submission. If you have a pending license, it must be in-hand by the Wednesday before your start date; however, RRT travelers must have their license in-hand at the time of submission.

Please note the following compliance details:

• RTO Policy: Travelers are guaranteed up to 40 hours of Remote Time Off (RTO) per 13-week contract. Any vacation plans between the sign date and start date must be communicated to the Client Delivery Manager at the time of submission to ensure a realistic start date. No additional RTO requests will be approved after acceptance.
• Background & History: If you are aware of any background hits, please inform the Client Delivery Manager. If you have previously worked at any University of Virginia Health system facility (as permanent staff or traveler), you must inform the manager. Permanent staff and internal travelers must be separated for one year and approved by UVA leadership to return.
• Assignment Limits: UVA does not allow external travelers to work on an assignment for more than 365 days, regardless of time off between contracts.
• Orientation: Modules are non-billable up to 16 hours and are completed during orientation; any time spent in excess of 16 hours is billable.
