We are seeking an experienced RN-Charge Nurse to lead nursing operations at a rural hospital in North Dakota, located outside of Bismarck. This 13-week contract role is critical for maintaining the highest level of quality patient care in a Level III (or higher) trauma setting. As the Charge Nurse, you will supervise day-to-day nursing activities, ensuring all care aligns with federal, state, and local standards while directing the facility's nursing team under the guidance of the Director of Nursing Service.
Your day will be dynamic and fast-paced, characterized by frequent interruptions and the need to adapt to the unique demands of a rural healthcare environment. You will oversee patient care management through frequent nursing rounds, identifying needs and assigning responsibilities to RNs, LPNs, and auxiliary staff based on patient acuity and team skills. A significant portion of your time will be dedicated to coordinating care during crisis situations, facilitating patient admissions, transfers, and discharges, and accompanying physicians on rounds for examinations and treatments.
You will also play a key role in team development by orienting new licensed staff and assisting with the teaching and monitoring of nursing assistants. While the role requires punctuality and adherence to professional standards, it also offers the flexibility to work beyond normal hours, including holidays and weekends, and may involve on-call status during periods of low census.
Candidates must possess a current North Dakota Registered Nurse license or a compact license from a qualifying state. While specific certifications such as BLS, ACLS, PALS, PCCN, and TNCC are required, some may be obtained during the onboarding period prior to the start date if necessary. The position requires a minimum of one year of Level III or higher trauma experience and previous Charge experience.
