About the Team
The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing is dedicated to providing exceptional patient care through a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach. The Neurobehavioral Psychiatry Unit, located in the John Pappajohn Pavilion, is a specialized 4-bed inpatient facility designed for adults experiencing acute psychiatric symptoms related to mood disorders, thought disorders, and co-occurring intellectual disabilities. This unit serves the most acutely ill patients, who often present with dysregulated behaviors. The treatment team integrates Registered Nurses, Psychiatric Nursing Assistants, Behavioral Health Consultants, therapists, physicians, and social workers to deliver comprehensive care, supported by psychology professionals who assist in developing behavior management plans.

Key Responsibilities
- check_circleParticipate in planning patient care appropriate for the patient's condition and age
- check_circleProvide supervision of patients during activities and intervene in potential crisis situations
- check_circlePerform basic CPR as required and maintain patient confidentiality
- check_circleDocument patient behavior in a factual, legible manner and identify material to report to the registered nurse
- check_circlePerform patient personal hygiene including bathing, toileting, feeding, dressing, grooming, and oral care
- check_circleSet up rooms for patient admission and transport patients by bed, cart, or wheelchair
- check_circleClean equipment, patient bedside areas, and the nursing unit
- check_circleMaintain patient safety and security by providing physical care and following standard precautions
- check_circleTransport equipment, specimens, and supplies while stocking patient rooms and the nursing unit
- check_circleEstablish therapeutic relationships with patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team
- check_circleTake vital signs such as temperature, pulse, and blood pressure
Requirements

Nice to Have
Experience defusing volatile situations. Certified Nursing Assistant status. Strong written communication skills with experience providing customer service relations. Previous patient care experience in a Mental Health setting.
