The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing is dedicated to providing exceptional patient care through a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach. The Neurobehavioral Psychiatry Unit, located in the John Pappajohn Pavilion, is a specialized 4-bed inpatient facility designed for adults experiencing acute psychiatric symptoms related to mood disorders, thought disorders, and co-occurring intellectual disabilities. This unit serves the most acutely ill patients, who often present with dysregulated behaviors. The treatment team integrates Registered Nurses, Psychiatric Nursing Assistants, Behavioral Health Consultants, therapists, physicians, and social workers to deliver comprehensive care, supported by psychology professionals who assist in developing behavior management plans.
