The Intensive Outpatient Clinic (IOC) at University of Utah Health is a team-based clinic dedicated to serving individuals with complex medical and psychosocial needs. Operating within a capitated Medicaid model in partnership with University of Utah Health Plans, the IOC prioritizes integrated, whole-person care over traditional volume-based outpatient models. The interdisciplinary team brings together medical providers, behavioral health clinicians, and care coordinators to improve health outcomes and reduce avoidable emergency department visits and hospitalizations.
The IOC is part of the University of Utah Population Health Center and collaborates closely with primary care, learner clinics, dental services, dermatology, pediatrics, and behavioral health programs. In 2023, the clinic was recognized by Governor Spencer Cox's One Utah Health Collaborative for innovation in comprehensive care delivery and was featured in the Sundance Film Festival short film Meet Me Where I Am, which highlights the impact of person-centered care.
