The Professional Staff Nurse serves as a vital member of the care delivery team, setting the standards for the level and quality of care provided. This role encompasses leadership, partnership, and collaboration, requiring the application of independent judgment to manage patient care activities for a group of patients and their families. The nurse establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with physicians, other healthcare providers, and families to achieve desired patient outcomes throughout the continuum of care.
As a professional, you will demonstrate a commitment to the community and the nursing profession by fostering a healing environment through Relationship Based Care. You will act as a preceptor and educator, applying adult learning principles to teach patients, families, students, and new staff. Your work involves creating an environment of open dialogue, inquiry, and continuous development, actively participating in shared governance and quality improvement efforts to enhance the practice environment.
This is a casual, as-needed position designed to offer flexibility while meeting unit needs. Shifts can be scheduled in 4, 8, or 12-hour blocks, covering both day (7am-7pm) and night (7pm-7am) hours. The role includes a commitment to weekend availability, with 16-24 hours of weekend time required every 12 weeks, as well as 12 hours of holiday time per year for recognized UPMC holidays.
