The Refrigerant Group within Carrier’s Mechanical Center of Excellence is seeking a motivated, results-oriented, and experienced engineer to join our team in East Syracuse, NY. As a Principal Engineer, you will be a key member of the team providing advanced refrigerant evaluation and development for Carrier’s global HVAC&R portfolio. Your primary focus will be leading modeling-centered system technology evaluation and strategy development. You will participate in industry research and standards development for future refrigerants and products, collaborating with technology experts, modeling and simulation specialists, product design groups, and supply chain partners. Together, you will develop new refrigerants and system technologies to improve the performance, cost, reliability, and sustainability of Carrier products.

Knowledge of thermodynamics with a specific focus on vapor compression cycles for air conditioning and refrigeration. Air conditioning system simulation capabilities. Knowledge of refrigerant properties, including thermodynamic properties and flammability characteristics. Proficiency in software tools such as IPM, EES, Refprop, and Microsoft Office. Knowledge of refrigerant standards, system standards, and building codes, particularly those related to flammable refrigerants. Project planning and management experience.
