About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Power Distribution / Make-Ready Designer who is comfortable owning the full lifecycle of utility pole design, from field data collection through construction-ready engineering deliverables. This role is ideal for designers who prefer to personally verify field conditions, understand how real-world infrastructure impacts design decisions, and want to reduce handoff gaps between field and design teams.
This position is remote but requires regular local fieldwork within the assigned territory (Tulsa, Lawton, McAlester, and surrounding areas), with occasional overnight travel as needed. When not collecting field data, design work will be done remotely from home. New hires are required to attend a 2-week paid, in-person onboarding and training at our Perrysburg, Ohio headquarters.

Key Responsibilities
- check_circlePerform utility pole walkouts and field surveys to collect attachment, clearance, and structural data
- check_circleCapture photos, measurements, GPS data, and field notes to support design decisions
- check_circleExecute overhead distribution and make-ready designs in compliance with NESC and client standards
- check_circlePerform pole loading analysis and clearance resolution for utility infrastructure
- check_circlePerform or support quality control reviews on design deliverables
- check_circlePerform end-to-end joint-use and general distribution design projects
- check_circleEvaluate field conditions to determine make-ready requirements, attachment rearrangements, and pole replacements
- check_circleDevelop complete, construction-ready design packages using DDS, AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar platforms
- check_circleCollaborate with engineering, project management, and quality teams to ensure project success
- check_circleResearch right-of-way, easements, permitting constraints, and property ownership as necessary
- check_circleVerify pole ownership, attachment types, heights, spans, guying, and equipment in the field
Requirements
- verifiedHigh school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or higher in engineering, drafting, or related field preferred
- verifiedMinimum 1 year of experience in make-ready engineering, joint-use design, or power distribution design (2+ years strongly preferred)
- verifiedProficiency with CAD or MicroStation; experience with DDS, Katapult, O-Calc preferred
- verifiedValid driver's license, active auto insurance, and ability to pass background, drug, and motor vehicle screenings
- verifiedAuthorization to work in the United States
Nice to Have
Associate degree or higher in engineering, drafting, or a related field. 2+ years of experience in make-ready engineering, joint-use design, or power distribution design. Proficiency with DDS, Katapult, O-Calc, or similar utility design platforms.
