Plant Designer Senior

About the Role

We are seeking a Mid-Level Plant Designer to join our team in Oak Ridge, TN. This position is critical for developing piping systems and equipment layouts within complex industrial environments, specifically within the chemical process and nuclear sectors. You will serve as a key collaborator, bridging the gap between design intent and physical construction by working closely with Piping, Structural, and Civil engineering disciplines.

In this role, you will utilize advanced BIM tools like SmartPlant 3D to create intelligent schematics and manage model outputs. Your work will directly impact the integration of mechanical systems, including HVAC, piping, and plumbing, ensuring seamless coordination across all project phases. You will be responsible for resolving interferences, supporting stress analysis locations, and managing material lists and reports to keep projects on schedule and within budget.

A Day in the Life

Your day will involve a mix of focused design work and active field engagement. While much of your time will be spent at a standard office PC developing 3D models and layouts, you will also be required to travel to construction job sites. In the field, you will inspect equipment, verify underground interface connections, and ensure that designs align with on-site realities. This role demands a high level of situational awareness, as you may work near hazardous machinery, uneven ground, and varying environmental conditions.
