Air and Marine Operations (AMO), a component of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), is an elite team of highly trained professionals dedicated to protecting America. Our mission is defined by camaraderie, pride, and a shared purpose to detect, prevent, and interdict terrorists, weapons, and contraband from illegally entering the United States. We offer skilled pilots an opportunity to join a law enforcement culture where daily operations are driven by a critical national security mandate.
As an Air Interdiction Agent (AIA), you will serve as a skilled pilot within a security-based, full-time law enforcement capacity. This role is designed for those seeking an exciting career that combines aviation expertise with the stability and benefits of federal service. You will work alongside a team of professionals to conduct aviation-based operations, including air patrol, surveillance, and pursuit activities targeting smuggled contraband via land vehicles, aircraft, or vessels.
Your day-to-day responsibilities involve monitoring suspect behavior patterns, collecting and analyzing strategic intelligence, and supporting search and rescue and humanitarian efforts. Whether operating in the Southeast, Southwest, or Caribbean regions, or managing Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) at National Air Security Operation Centers, you will be at the forefront of border security missions.
AMO utilizes a streamlined application process for qualified candidates. There are three primary ways to apply:
Stay Updated: We highly recommend opting into CBP's talent repository by selecting the "Contact a Recruiter" button. Choose "Air and Marine Operations" and "Air Interdiction Agent" as your position of interest, then complete the pre-screening questions. This ensures you receive monthly updates regarding webinars, career expos, and future opportunities.
Successful candidates will undergo a three-part assessment. Upon completion, a duty location will be offered based on operational and mission requirements. You must be willing to work at any duty location within the selected region (Southeast, Southwest, CAMB, or NASOC UAS locations).
We are an equal opportunity employer committed to building a diverse workforce. We consider qualified applicants regardless of background.
Age & Veterans: While the standard maximum age for initial appointment to a primary law enforcement officer within DHS is 37, the Commissioner of CBP has approved a temporary increase to age 40 for Air Interdiction Agent positions. Veterans' preference eligibility under 5 U.S.C. 3312 may also exempt candidates from the maximum age restriction. Proof of Veteran's Preference (DD-214 Member 4 Copy) must be submitted at the time of application.
Training: Successful completion of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Academy (FLETC) and other required training courses is a condition of employment. Failure to complete these requirements may result in separation or reassignment.
