At Sargent & Lundy, we are dedicated to the health and well-being of our employees, a commitment that has earned us the prestigious Top Workplaces Culture Excellence Award for compensation and benefits in 2022, 2023, and 2024. Our Grid Group operates within a collaborative project team environment, bringing together engineers and designers to tackle complex challenges in high and extra high voltage substation design and mission-critical telecommunications.
As a Physical Designer, you will serve as a vital link in the design process, working closely with engineers to prepare detailed substation and telecommunications drawings. Your work will define the physical layout of critical infrastructure, including General Arrangement plans, electrical equipment layouts, section views, and grounding systems. Beyond drafting, you will develop network architecture designs based on TDM, SONET, and IP/MPLS standards, ensuring fail-safe systems with path and equipment redundancies for extreme reliability.
In this hybrid role based in San Juan, Puerto Rico, you will balance office collaboration with remote flexibility, spending three days a week in the office and two days working remotely. You will apply client standards, interpret vendor information, perform facility walkdowns, and mentor other designers and drafters. This position offers a generous relocation package for eligible candidates.
Please note that we do not sponsor employees for work authorization in the U.S. for this position. Qualified candidates should ensure they meet the bilingual requirement (Spanish and English) and possess the necessary technical experience before applying.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other protected status as defined by applicable law.
