As a Phlebotomist, you serve as a critical link between patient care and laboratory diagnostics. Your primary mission is to accurately identify patients, draw blood samples, and ensure their safe transport to the laboratory for analysis. Beyond specimen collection, you play a vital role in maintaining precise records of tests performed and samples taken. In settings where applicable, you may also perform waived or moderate complexity tests, analyzing results for accuracy and critical limits while upholding the highest standards of patient care.
Your work is defined by a balance of technical precision and compassionate interaction. You will spend your day identifying patients and collecting samples according to established protocols, ensuring optimal sample quality for downstream analysis. Whether conducting routine blood collections, bedside testing, or selected culture collections, you must adhere strictly to safety, quality assurance, and infection control standards.
You will collaborate closely with patients, physicians, pathologists, and laboratory staff to coordinate duties and maintain efficient departmental operations. This role requires adaptability; you must be prepared to handle unusual circumstances with initiative, ensuring minimal disruption to the working environment while maintaining professional discretion regarding patient information and confidentiality.
