As a Pharmacy Technician at Walgreens, you play a vital role in supporting the pharmacist and ensuring the pharmacy department operates smoothly and safely. Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, you assist in the practice of pharmacy in strict accordance with state and federal regulations, as well as company policies. Your work is essential to maintaining the integrity of the prescription process, from obtaining patient information and processing prescriptions to managing inventory and handling cash transactions.
Delivering a distinctive and delightful customer experience is at the heart of this position. You will engage with customers and patients by greeting them warmly and offering proactive assistance with products and services. Whether resolving issues, answering questions, or helping customers locate over-the-counter items, your goal is to ensure a positive interaction every time. You will model and share customer service best practices with the team, demonstrating key interpersonal habits such as courtesy, eye contact, and a commitment to servicing customers until they are satisfied. Building strong relationships with our most valuable customers is a key part of your daily responsibilities.
Your day-to-day operations involve utilizing pharmacy systems to accurately enter patient and drug information, filling prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring medications, and verifying that the correct medicine is dispensed while checking for possible interactions. You will report any prescription errors immediately to the pharmacist on duty and adhere to the Quality Improvement Program. Additionally, you will manage cash registers, process manual claims for third-party prescription services, and support inventory management activities, including ordering, unpacking, and storing pharmaceutical shipments.
Beyond the counter, you may assist the pharmacist in administering clinical services, such as collecting and labeling blood or urine samples, and coordinating with Walgreens healthcare clinics and external providers. You will also help maintain strong relationships with the local medical community, including physicians and nurses, through outreach and detailing. The role also includes maintaining a clean, neat, and orderly pharmacy environment and ensuring the department is adequately stocked.
We are committed to your professional growth. You will be expected to earn and maintain PTCB or ExCPT certification through designated training programs or state-required registration. As a condition of promotion to a senior technician role, certification is required. You will attend training sessions, complete required PPLs, and acquire continuing education credits to stay current with the latest healthcare and pharmacy developments.
