Geisinger is one of the premier tertiary medical systems on the East Coast, serving the northeast and central Pennsylvania regions. Founded more than 100 years ago by Abigail Geisinger, the system now includes ten hospital campuses, a 550,000-member health plan, two research centers, and the Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine. With nearly 24,000 employees and over 1,700 employed physicians, Geisinger boosts Pennsylvania's economy by billions of dollars annually.
Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center (GWV) has been part of the Geisinger family since opening as the NPW Medical Center in 1981. Located just outside of Wilkes-Barre, GWV is home to a Level II trauma center and services in more than 50 specialty and subspecialty areas. The campus includes the Richard and Marion Pearsall Heart Hospital, the Frank M. and Dorothea Henry Cancer Center, the Tambur Family Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and the Critical Care Building, all providing top-rated specialty care. The professionals at GWV provide high-quality, coordinated, patient-centered care for residents of northeastern Pennsylvania and beyond.
