This position serves as an integral member of the dialysis healthcare team, dedicated to providing safe and effective dialysis therapy for patients. Working under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse, the role ensures compliance with organization policies and regulations set forth by federal, state, and corporate agencies. The core mission involves the setup and operation of hemodialysis machines while maintaining a safe, clean, and supportive working environment.
Beyond clinical duties, this role actively supports the organization's commitment to the Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities. Team members play a vital part in process improvement initiatives designed to enhance patient satisfaction and help patients achieve their quality enhancement goals.
Your day begins by welcoming assigned patients and inquiring about their wellbeing since their last treatment. You will evaluate vascular access for patency, perform cannulation, and administer heparin as delegated or permitted by state law. Throughout the shift, you will monitor patients' responses to dialysis therapy, manage intradialytic problems, and ensure all safety alarms are enabled.
A significant portion of your time is dedicated to precise documentation and data entry, recording vital signs, treatment parameters, and patient evaluations on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheets. You will also coordinate the care of newly admitted patients through their first four weeks of dialysis, assisting them in understanding treatment options and home dialysis products. Additionally, you will maintain environmental integrity by cleaning and disinfecting machines and equipment between treatments, ensuring strict adherence to infection control policies.
Successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to the organization's culture, values, and customer service standards. Continued employment is contingent upon the successful completion of the organization's dialysis training program and CPR certification. As part of the onboarding process, all employees are required to take the Ishihara's Color Blindness test; however, failing this test does not automatically preclude employment, as the company will consider reasonable accommodations.
