Cherry County Hospital is a critical access facility located in Valentine, Nebraska, dedicated to serving the rural community with compassionate, high-quality healthcare. Our surgical services team plays a vital role in the region, providing essential perioperative care to patients ranging from pediatrics to geriatrics. We pride ourselves on a collaborative environment where clinical autonomy is encouraged, and every team member contributes to the well-being of our neighbors.
We are seeking an experienced Operating Room Registered Nurse to join our surgical services team as a Circulating Nurse. This position is designed for a confident and adaptable professional who thrives in a fast-paced, rural healthcare setting. As an RN circulator, you will be the guardian of the non-sterile field, ensuring patient safety and procedural efficiency from pre-operative preparation through post-anesthesia recovery.
In this role, you will partner closely with surgical technologists, anesthesiologists, and surgeons to manage a diverse array of procedures, including orthopedics, general surgery, endoscopy, and obstetrics. You will be responsible for troubleshooting equipment, anticipating the needs of the surgical team, and responding effectively to emergent situations. The role offers a unique opportunity to practice broad-based perioperative nursing with significant clinical responsibility.
Your day will begin with thorough preparation, ensuring all preference cards are updated, patient information is verified, and necessary supplies and equipment are ready. You will coordinate patient care, providing education and comfort to patients and families while maintaining strict privacy and dignity.
Once the procedure begins, you will manage the sterile field, monitor for safety hazards, and document intra-operative care in real-time. You will work seamlessly with the scrub team to ensure accurate counts and proper handling of implants and specimens. Following the surgery, you will assist with patient transfer and provide a comprehensive handoff to the PACU team, often stepping in to support recovery care as needed. You will also be responsible for cleaning and restocking the OR suite to ensure readiness for the next case.
Candidates must possess a current Nebraska Registered Nurse license and required certifications (ACLS, BLS). Those with PALS certification or experience in Post Anesthesia Care are highly encouraged to apply. Please submit your application directly through the Cherry County Hospital careers portal. Selected candidates will be contacted for an interview process that includes a review of clinical competencies and a discussion of team fit.
