The Clinical Specialist/Optometric Assistant serves as a vital liaison between patients and Optometrists, ensuring a seamless and compassionate patient journey. Whether in an onsite clinic or facilitating remote examinations, you will be the first point of contact, guiding patients through pre-exam diagnostics, explaining testing procedures, and preparing them for their consultation with the doctor.
This role is designed for a patient advocate who thrives in a fast-paced environment. You will manage the flow of patients, triage ocular emergencies, and ensure that every interaction reflects empathy and professionalism. From assisting with contact lens trials to coordinating with retail associates on post-exam recommendations, your work directly impacts the quality of care and the overall patient experience.
Your day will involve a dynamic mix of clinical support and patient education. You will gather medical history and ocular health data, administer preliminary tests, and accurately document results in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). For remote appointments, you will act as the technical and clinical bridge, initiating video conferencing and guiding patients through specialty testing.
Beyond clinical duties, you will manage appointment logistics, including scheduling, handling cancellations, and pre-authorizing insurance. You will also educate patients on contact lens care, manage inventory for trials, and maintain a clean, safe clinical environment. Flexibility is key, as you may need to travel between locations and adapt to changing business demands.
Candidates with a background in optical or healthcare settings are encouraged to apply. The selection process focuses on identifying individuals who demonstrate strong customer service skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively within a team. Successful candidates will participate in specialized training to complete required clinical certifications.
