This position serves as a critical field resource for John H. Carter Co., Inc., focusing on the troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of control and automated valve assemblies. The role is designed for a self-directed professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, often working independently to resolve operational problems at customer sites both onshore and offshore.
You will be the primary point of contact for communicating company deliverables, ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of all internal and external reporting. A significant portion of the work involves traveling to customer locations to assess equipment conditions, perform necessary repairs, and educate clients on operational best practices. The role requires a deep understanding of oil and gas well pad and processing plant equipment, including isolation valves, choke valves, pneumatic actuators, and motor-operated valves.
This is a physically demanding role performed primarily outdoors. You will work in varying weather conditions, ranging from extreme summer heat to winter cold. The job requires the ability to stand, walk, bend, squat, kneel, and climb for extended periods. You must be capable of lifting and carrying items ranging from 10 lbs to over 100 lbs, as well as pushing and pulling heavy equipment. The position may also require working on-call, off-shift, and overtime, including weekends, to meet customer needs.
Safety is a core responsibility of this role. You will be accountable for the overall safety of the work environment, ensuring strict compliance with company policies, client requirements, and OSHA standards. This includes performing Job Safety Analyses (JSA) before starting work, conducting behavioral safety observations, and maintaining a clean, secure, and well-maintained work area.
Candidates should possess a minimum of two years of direct experience in control or automated valve repair across various brands. Familiarity with the repair and service of isolation valves (gate, globe, check, butterfly, and ball), wellhead valves, and relief valves is essential. Experience with PVAM work scope, valve greasing, instrumentation installation, and flame arrestor inspection is highly valued.
A technical certification from an accredited Vo-Tech or community college is preferred, alongside a high school diploma. Proficiency in MS Office products (Outlook, Excel, Word) and the ability to use test equipment to measure electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic power are required. Strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary to effectively troubleshoot issues with customers who may not be able to fully describe a problem.
We value integrity, professionalism, and initiative. We look for individuals who behave ethically, maintain composure in difficult situations, and take pride in their work. Success in this role requires the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with development and support staff to maintain a thorough knowledge of product capabilities. We encourage a positive attitude, continuous learning, and the ability to adapt to changing situations and new approaches.
To apply, please submit your resume highlighting your experience with valve repair and field operations. We are committed to building a diverse workforce and consider qualified applicants regardless of background.
