About the Role

The Nurse Manager and Nurse Manager-Complex roles are pivotal in ensuring excellent patient care, achieving financial objectives, and fostering leadership development within nursing departments. Reporting to a Nurse Director, this position is accountable for developing departmental structure, processes, and outcome standards for a specific unit. The role balances tactical day-to-day activities (50%), operational management including budgeting and performance evaluations (40%), and strategic planning to meet organizational goals (10%).

The scope of the role varies by level: Level 1 Nurse Managers oversee units with fewer than 50 staff or those operating Monday through Friday. Level 2 Nurse Managers-Complex manage larger teams exceeding 50 headcount, multiple departments, or units operating 24/7.

Day in the Life

You will champion the use of resources to ensure nursing care is efficient, effective, safe, and delivered with compassion. Your day involves facilitating collaborative problem-solving, advocating for necessary resources, and promoting shared decision-making. You will model an environment of professionalism and employee engagement while ensuring the unit is staffed with a competent and sufficient number of nurses. This includes overseeing recruitment, retention, orientation, and ongoing competency verification through mentorship and professional development opportunities.

You will serve as an exemplary figure, integrating the organization's Healing Commitments and Healing Connections into all facets of patient care. Additionally, you will partner with physicians to achieve clinical and service goals, support student nurse activities, and encourage staff participation in community health initiatives.
