About the Role

The Department of Nursing is seeking an hourly/per diem Nursing Assistant 1 to join our Float Team. This entry-level position provides direct, hands-on care to individuals in hospitals and long-term care facilities operated by New York State.

In this role, you will be the frontline support for patients, attending to personal hygiene needs and performing simple treatments under the direction of licensed clinical staff. Your day will involve frequent face-to-face communication with patients and visitors, offering encouragement to those who may be despondent or apprehensive. You will act as the eyes and ears of the clinical team, observing and reporting on patients' physical conditions, behavioral changes, fatigue levels, and responses to routine treatments. From assisting with bathing and dressing to monitoring vital signs and transporting patients, your work ensures a comfortable, sanitary, and supportive atmosphere conducive to healing.
