NewsNation is seeking an Assignment Desk Editor to anchor our national assignment desk from our New York offices. In this pivotal role, you will ensure the network is strategically positioned to cover the day's top stories across morning, dayside, and primetime programming for our 24-7 cable news operation.
As a union position, the successful candidate will join the News Guild upon hire. This role is designed for a self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment, bringing fresh ideas and excellent communication skills to the team. You will serve as the central hub for news gathering, coordinating coverage of breaking news, continuing stories, and daily news cycles with correspondents, producers, and photojournalists.
Your day will involve identifying news of interest to a national audience, conducting deep research, and verifying information through direct source outreach. You will gather essential editorial elements—including video, audio, and pictures—to craft compelling narratives. The role requires constant collaboration with field teams to support live hits and maintain direct contact with Nexstar TV stations to harness additional reporting resources and distribute NewsNation content.
Candidates interested in this position should apply through the official NewsNation careers portal. The selection process will evaluate your newsroom experience, editorial judgment, and ability to work flexible shifts, including weekdays and holidays as news developments warrant.
