Transform technology into opportunity as a Field Computer Specialist at GDIT. You will shape what's next for mission-critical government projects while advancing your own engineering career. This role supports the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS), an organization of over 2,200 personnel dedicated to criminal investigation, law enforcement, counter-terrorism, counterintelligence, and cyber matters within the Department of Navy. NCIS holds exclusive investigative jurisdiction in non-combat matters involving criminal, terrorism, sabotage, espionage, and subversive activities.
As a Field Computer Specialist, your work will be directly impactful to the NCIS mission onsite in Norfolk, VA. You will serve as a vital link in maintaining the security and operational readiness of critical infrastructure across multiple naval installations in Virginia, including Naval Station Norfolk, Naval Air Station Oceana, and the Norfolk Naval Shipyard.
This position is designed for professionals who thrive in a dynamic, high-stakes environment where technology meets national security. You will be responsible for implementing security standards, managing vulnerabilities, and ensuring the reliability of complex IT systems. Your day-to-day involves diagnosing and troubleshooting OS, hardware, and network issues, while also automating tasks through scripting and managing server configurations in virtual environments.
Beyond technical execution, you will engage in daily written and oral communications with coworkers and leadership, document work for audit purposes, and update Standard Operating Procedures. The role requires a balance of deep technical focus and collaborative coordination, particularly when supporting NMCI requirements and liaising with Contract Technical Representatives.
Note: This position is pending funding and is contingent upon the successful completion of the hiring process.
Candidates must be U.S. Citizens with an active Top Secret clearance (TS/SCI eligible). The application process involves a review of qualifications, including required certifications and experience, followed by security vetting. Successful candidates will be placed onsite in Norfolk, VA, with travel requirements ranging from 25% to 50% across various local naval facilities.
