Match is a free, high-performing charter public school in Boston serving up to 1,250 students from PreK through 12th grade. Our mission is to prepare students—particularly multilingual learners and those who would be the first in their families to earn a college degree—for success in college and careers, achieving economic security and mobility. Students gain acceptance via an annual blind public lottery open to all Boston residents.
Our community reflects amazing racial and cultural diversity, representing over 20 countries of origin and 20 languages spoken at home. Ninety-eight percent of our students are people of color. We are prepared to serve a diverse range of needs: 23% of our students qualify for special education services, and 19% are English Language Learners.
Match's core values are Equity, Freedom, Teamwork, Innovation, and Accountability. We are actively reframing our organizational processes and policies to be truly anti-racist. We believe that a staff diverse by race and other factors, a professional environment inclusive of all perspectives, and a culturally competent curriculum are vital to achieving our goals.
As a Middle School Special Education Teacher at Match Middle School in Jamaica Plain, you will be a pivotal part of our commitment to effectively supporting students with disabilities. Approximately 20% of our student body is on Individualized Education Plans (IEPs). In this role, you will provide instruction and support to these students, ensuring they thrive academically and behaviorally.
Your day will involve providing inclusion support and instruction in regular education classes containing IEP students, and teaching separate classes when necessary. You will partner with the Special Education Director to manage the school's special education programming, including paperwork, professional development, parent and student communication, and compliance with Department of Elementary and Secondary Education requirements. You will uphold high expectations for all students while providing the necessary support to help them reach those goals. As a collaborative member of the Match community, you will actively participate in coaching and professional development programming and assist with school programming as needed.
We encourage you to apply even if you do not believe you meet every single qualification listed. Research shows that people of color and women are often less likely to apply if they feel they must meet every requirement. Our highest priority is finding the best candidate for the job, including those with less traditional backgrounds.
Please note that we are only able to consider applicants who have current US work authorization.
