El Rio Health is a non-profit 501(c)(3) Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) dedicated to a simple yet powerful mission: providing comprehensive, quality healthcare that is affordable and accessible to all who may have healthcare needs. As a community-focused organization, we strive to ensure that every patient receives the care they deserve regardless of their background or ability to pay.
The Medical Assistant serves as a vital support role within our clinical teams, delivering direct patient care alongside clinical and non-clinical services. This position is designed to uphold the highest standards of excellence while maintaining the lowest possible error rates. You will work under general supervision, collaborating with providers to ensure a seamless patient experience from intake to discharge.
In this role, you will be the first point of contact for many patients, guiding them through the intake process and documenting their information in the Electronic Health Record (EHR). Your day will involve anticipating patient needs based on their reason for the visit, coordinating outside medical records, and ensuring laboratory and radiology results are processed efficiently. You will also play a key role in patient education, ensuring individuals understand their discharge instructions and treatment plans before leaving the clinic.
Beyond clinical duties, you will maintain a clean, safe, and hygienic work environment, manage medical supply inventories, and adhere to strict compliance standards, including Joint Commission Accreditation requirements. Your ability to communicate proactively and positively with patients will be essential in promoting compliance with appointments and treatments. You will also be expected to identify and report safety hazards immediately, ensuring a secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
To join our team, candidates must possess a Medical Assistant Certificate from an accredited institution and a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. A Level I Fingerprint Clearance Card is required for all Arizona employees; new hires must submit their card or receipt before their start date, with the physical card required within 30 days. All employees are subject to drug testing prior to employment and must comply with federal and state regulations regarding alcohol and controlled substances. We also strongly recommend that all staff maintain up-to-date vaccination status, including the Influenza vaccine, subject to legal exemptions.
El Rio Health is an equal opportunity employer. We do not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy and sexual orientation), parental status, national origin, age, disability, genetic information, political affiliation, military service, or other non-merit-based factors. It is our intention that all qualified applicants be given equal opportunity, and selection decisions are based strictly on job-related factors. Reasonable accommodations are available to enable individuals with disabilities, known limitations related to pregnancy or childbirth, and for sincerely held religious beliefs to perform the essential functions of the job.
