This position serves as a vital extension of the physician and nursing team, performing patient care under direct supervision. The role is designed to ensure seamless coordination of care, bridging clinical support with administrative efficiency to meet patient needs. From preparing patients for examinations to managing the flow of diagnostic data, the Medical Assistant acts as a key facilitator in the daily operations of the medical suite.
Your day will involve a dynamic mix of clinical and administrative tasks. You will collaborate closely with the healthcare team to implement patient care plans, recording visit reasons and patient information for practitioner review. Clinical duties include performing vital signs, screening procedures (such as vision and hearing tests), and collecting specimens using strict infection control protocols. You will also perform electrocardiograms and phlebotomy, assist with special procedures like lumbar punctures or pelvic exams, and maintain the cleanliness and supply levels of examination rooms.
Beyond clinical support, you will manage essential clerical functions, including filing medical records, processing insurance forms, and ensuring an efficient flow of patients through the suite. You will also be responsible for maintaining equipment logs and ensuring all necessary documentation is ready for practitioner review prior to visits.
Candidates must meet specific qualification criteria, including a high school diploma or equivalent, and either completion of a Medical Assistant training program or 1–3 years of relevant experience as a Medical Assistant, EMT, or Certified Nursing Attendant. Successful completion of the Northwell Health Medical Assistant training program is also an accepted pathway.
All responsibilities noted are considered essential functions of the job under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Northwell Health is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion.
