Hospice Savannah, Inc. operates within the Hospitals and Health Care industry, based in Savannah, Georgia. Established as a non-profit organization in 1979 by the community, the entity provides a comprehensive continuum of care. Services include palliative support and caregiver assistance following a serious progressive illness diagnosis, specialized hospice care for individuals with a prognosis of six months or less, and bereavement support for families and community members. As the sole Joint Commission-accredited hospice in the Coastal Empire, the organization serves patients across Bryan, Chatham, Effingham, Long, and Liberty counties.
The organization maintains membership with the United Way of the Coastal Empire, the National Partnership for Hospice Innovation, and the Georgia Hospice and Palliative Care Organization. Through affiliations with local academic programs, it offers education and residency opportunities for nurses, medical residents, and social workers. Operations include a homelike inpatient facility at 1352 Eisenhower Drive for patients requiring medical care not manageable at home, as well as respite for caregivers. Under the direction of full-time medical directors board-certified in hospice and palliative care, a team comprising over 125 volunteers and 125 full and part-time staff delivers care.
The Demere Center for Living at 6000 Business Center Drive houses the Hospice Savannah Foundation and community programs such as Full Circle Grief and Loss, the Steward Center for Palliative Care, and the Edel Caregiver Institute. The foundation supports a full-time music therapy program and a full-time massage therapy program. Additional initiatives include We Honor Veterans and Pet Peace of Mind programs designed to support specific community needs.
