The RED HORSE Operations NCOIC serves as a pivotal supervisory leader within the Operations Branch, overseeing 3-8 full-time subordinates and managing six distinct operations sections. This role is critical to the mission of maintaining and constructing facilities, roadways, and utility systems across the installation. The position acts as the bridge between strategic squadron goals and the tactical execution of maintenance, repair, and construction activities.
In this capacity, you will coordinate a large staff of military members to ensure the continuity of operations for multi-shop projects. The role involves tailoring work parties to specific project requirements, detailing work for leaders, and explaining accepted trade methods and techniques. You will play a key part in contract development and execution, outlining objectives, preparing specifications, and generating government cost estimates to support the unit's long-term and short-term objectives.
Your day will be defined by the application of management principles to optimize workforce efficiency and facility reliability. You will plan and prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly work schedules, balancing funding, material availability, equipment constraints, and operational limitations. This requires constant coordination with the force management section and other units to ensure seamless workflow.
You will be responsible for the full lifecycle of work assignments, from sequencing operations and setting priorities to inspecting progress and verifying compliance with performance standards. When challenges arise, you will independently investigate work-related problems and implement corrective actions to maintain economic and efficient job completion. Beyond technical oversight, you will manage personnel functions including interviewing applicants, selecting employees, writing performance evaluations, and counseling staff on conduct and performance issues.
This is an excepted service position within the National Guard, requiring immediate membership in the employing state's National Guard. Selectees must be prepared to wear the military uniform and maintain the appropriate security clearance for the position.
