From a small family business to a multi-billion dollar global company, Sonoco has been changing the face of products and packaging since 1899. We keep the heart of "People Build Businesses" alive, with our talented people at the core of our growth. Today, we are a world leader in global packaging solutions with diversified operations in over 34 countries. As a Machinist at our Milwaukee, WI facility, you will be a vital part of our production team, operating and maintaining the precision equipment that drives our manufacturing capabilities. This role is designed for someone who thrives in a hands-on environment where technical skill meets safety and quality standards.
In this position, you will interpret blueprints and work orders to create drawings or sketches of parts to be made or repaired. You will calculate dimensions, tapers, and indices, then select, grind, and adjust tools and speeds to machine parts to precise tolerances. Your day will involve setting up and operating machine tools such as lathes, grinders, mills, and hones, as well as performing dismantling, fitting, and assembly work for production equipment maintenance. Beyond the technical work, you will play a key role in our culture of safety by correcting unsafe acts, participating in monthly safety meetings, and adhering to SQF (Safe Quality Food) guidelines. You will also have the opportunity to support the growth of the team by providing on-the-job training to assigned personnel.
We are looking for candidates with a broad training in a related field, typically acquired through high school education, a GED, or equivalent work experience, along with at least two years of job-related experience. If you have a working knowledge of machine shop practices, metallurgy, and the ability to read blueprints and perform basic math, we'd love to hear from you.
